I partly rewrote the German article on FA today to reflect some of the plot's subtleties. That's more fun than hunting vandals.

Oh and I read your essay a few days ago. Very good work. You pointed out the most interesting subjects of FA, like being different to others. Instead of the abominable adolescence and puberty thing that reviewers were so eager to restate.
Instead you wrote about the things that make me really relate to FA and identify with their characters.
Everybody who's somewhat interested in FA should read this.

Oke here it goes

First, I made a remark about arthouse cinema's. I stated that you can see the best movies there. This Herald person reacted that this a very annoying remark.

I said in a reaction to this that it was a bit annoying, but I was looking for a discussion of the subject of arthouse cinema's versus commercial cinemas. A lot of American movies are produced with the commerical principle and most of the time there is a good budget. The best thing about arthouse is that some directors can make wonderful movies out of a very low budget. I think this is very remarkable. Then quality must come first. My opinion is that you see the quality of the director more clearly when he/she has a smaller budget. And it is a fact that these movies happen to be screened in arthouse cinema's. So, I still think that you have to go to these cinemas for the best movies. But that's m.h.o.

Then Herald said that the character Johan in FÅ was very superficial and not worked out properly.

The character of johan is very deep in fact and Moodysson has thought about the character very well and has worked it out in all aspects. Moodysson first thought of the character Johan as a brute character who would eventially try to rape Elin. This would give the movie a total different approach. Lukas decided to use the "soft" character to make the choice for Elin much more difficult. And with the choice I mean between Agnes (to be different) and Johan (the group). This is brilliant. I mean by this the part of the movie when Elin is denying her feelings and does not want to distance herself from the group. THIS IS WHAT THE MOVIE IS ABOUT. Try to be different and not to exclude yourself from the group, because of the consequences. Without Johan, this point would be less strong.

Then I got very annoyed by the remark that most men were watching this movie with the intend to see the inside of Elin's blouse. He said that the ending was not good because there was no making out scene and that nothing goes beyond two lesbian's making out.

Bah! en nog een Bah! Pardon my French again. Must I react to this? You are referring to the O'boy or chocolate scene? This scene is very important. It shows us how much courage it takes to talk about "the event" after the coming out. In this movie it is not about two lesbians making out and satisfy eachother in a love scene, but it is about to be different and to come out for it. In the O'boy scene it becomes clear that the two women can put a step forward together. Because Elin could say the next day at school, that the whole thing was a hoax. The O'Boy scene is a strong base for a solid relationship... quote unquote Lukas Moodysson. And I agree with the master completely.

The O'Boy scene is brilliant and very funny. A good ending and a fantastic fade out to the soundtrack, Robyn with show me love. It can't get any better. It gives you that certain feeling and you keep thinking about it, a lot...

Btw... someone who is looking for the contents of Elin's blouse is at the wrong address. He is better off renting another movie, because he missed the whole thing... or it is a teenager who only has one thing in mind and does not care about the subject at all.
