Yes Åmål is a little town in Sweden, but the movie FÅ was shot in Trollhättan, another town not that far from Åmål.

They have a center for film-making there and it's jokingly called Trollywood

Many Swedish films have been made there, scenes shot in studios, postproduction, and so on.

FÅ was shot entirely in Trollhättan, all outdoor-scenes, Agnes house, the bridge over the big road, the school etc.

Only the final scene in the bathroom at the school was actually shot in a studio, in Stockholm for some reason. But only the interiors of the bathroom are a studio, they had to fit in cameras and such, the rest is this school in Trollhättan.

There really is not much point in visiting the town of Åmål just because the movie FÅ used the same name, if you ever had this idea

And I don't understand why Fraks in Russia is watching a street in Åmål on a webcam, this is crazy

On the other hand visiting Trollhättan is something one could do, I was there one day this summer and looked around at some of the places where they shot the film. Didn't mention this before.

It was nice looking at and walking on the bridge over the road for example

:)

That's pretty cool, Magnus.

And yes, makes rather more sense than going to a place where they didn't even shoot it!

DVDPacific (a reliable store, I've used it many times) is selling FÅ on dvd for $17, cheap if you happen to live in the Euro zone (around 13€ plus shipping which is around 3€). I really like the American cover so I'm thinking of getting this American version too (I have the Finnish dvd and I don't like the cover, the one mostly used in Scandinavia).

Anyways, in case you have problems with regional coding, just find the right unlock code here. In my case it was just a matter of inputting four numbers (this had to be done once only - it permanently unlocks the coding).

Yeah, I wanted to point to that site too. Thanks fraks! That chap even bothered to dig up "Agnes's" home! That's devotion for you.

I think that's brilliant. I think it's both insane and magic when a piece of fiction - be it a film or a tv show - can inspire people to do things like that. I doubt I'll ever do it, but the fact I'd even consider it - if I could afford it - is a testament to the power of great storytelling - of which FA is most certainly an example.

Would not that be a risk of a great disillusionment, to walk about a place that is in reality different from the film fiction?

I don't think coming from abroad just to visit Trollhättan's FÅ locations is really worth the trip, but if you visit Sweden and pass by Trollhättan you could stop by and have a look.

It's different to me since I only travelled by car 2-3 hours.
