Whereas in the finished movie It's Elin who asks "Are you?" and Agnes who nods.

I make this comment not in criticism but only in praise, because Agnes' gentle little nod is a truly beautiful moment in an already beautiful film.

Cudos to whoever (Lucas?) suggested the change.

In the Swedish FÅ book, which is the script, it is Agnes who nods

Maybe it's just an error on that site, Fish ?

As for the kiss, Elin says it felt 'skitskönt' , that translates to roughly 'nice like shit' :lol:

'Bloody nice' or 'nice like hell' or something would be a correct translation, but maybe it doesn't fit in this context ?

And I think 'shag' is the correct translation for 'knulla' that Elin says in the coming out scene

'knulla' is not a bad word like 'fuck' just a slang for having sex, I've mentioned this before on this board

I'm learning new things everyday. I'm glad then that the subtitles on one of my copies are not as bad as I thought. Thanks for explaining that, much appreciated.

It's helpful to know these nuances. I like to use Swedish to be rude to my family without getting het up. 'skitskönt' could become my new favorite word

I got my new dvd player yesterday, and tried my Flick'd Sherdil on it. Surprisingly (or not) there appears to be no problem whatsoever with the final section of the film (which froze and refused to play altogether on my other player).

Problem solvered, then, I guess!

I don't know about the literal translation but the second version seems more like what a native English speakers would say. So we have the added complexity of the literal translation not always being the best.

The second translation is more accurate compared to the original swedish.

The translation on that site doesn't seem to be very good, I wonder who did it?

For sure, I'd rather hear the actors original voices every time. There was some debate when i first got here about this, I guess in other cultures (I think the guy was German) the common thing is to dub so that's what they're used to. Since so many films are made in English it's hard to get the proper perspective on this, the occasional subbed movie is fine and I tend to watch more than most, but I can see where if a large majority of the films that were shown were done in another language I'd be more accepting to dubbed.

That german dude had a really silly argument about dubbing

He claimed dubbed voices always sounded 'better' than the original ones :lol:

Maybe they do occasionally but hardly all the time, and he didn't care for authenticity or hearing the original voice of actors

He didn't want to admit dubbing was just more convenient for him :lol:

I don't know about other English speaking countries but that translation fits nicely into the Australian vernacular. ^O^

Maybe I'd have a different opinion if the vast majority of films were not in English but as a personal view I would rather hear an actors own voice and read subtitles than have a film dubbed. I mean, not hearing the real voices of Alex or Rebecka I'd find heartbreaking.
