If the machine is Alicia Vikander, sure I can.

She's the new "it-girl" of scandinavians gone international, lately.
Promising young actress.
I believe I even put down a recommendation of one of her earlier films, before the big break through.

And yes, I thought Ex Machina was good, as well.

Saw Dead of Night last night, a 1976 supernatural anthology flick. The first story, which sees Ed Begley Jr as a young man who restores a vintage car and is somehow transported back in time, was a bit lame, but I enjoyed the second and third. The second story features the late, great Patrick Macnee as a man in superstitious times whose wife is apparently being visited by a vampire at night, while the third (and scariest) sees a grieving mother turn to the supernatural to bring back her missing-presumed-drowned little boy. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that This Will Not End Well. :P
Enjoyable. :D

Saw the 1960 thriller The Flesh and the Fiends last night, which I've never seen before, and which turned out to actually be pretty damn good on all levels, from production to performances. Based on the real-life Burke and Hare case in the 1800s, it stars Peter Cushing as the Doctor so devoted to his studies of anatomy that he doesn't really give a toss where the corpses he studies come from, and a young(ish) Donald Pleasance giving a very creepy performance as Hare, who turns from grave-robbing to murder without so much as a blink once he realises that the fresher the corpse, the more money he gets paid. It was surprisingly dark and frank for a film of its vintage, and I really rather enjoyed it. :D

The Eagle Has Landed. In the dying days of World War II, the Germans come up with a daring scheme that could change the outcome of the war - by sending a crack team deep into enemy territory and abducting the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill! Michael Caine leads a fantastic cast (Donald Sutherland, Robert Duvall, Jenny Agutter, Donald Pleasence, Larry Hagman) in this cracking 70s thriller that, by putting the German characters front and centre, almost has you rooting for the bad guys. Terrific stuff. :D

Saw Intruder last night. I've seen this before, but it must be 20 years or more! This campy late 80s slasher sees the night shift at a closing-down supermarket come under attack from a mysterious lunatic. I vaguely remember this, but I didn't remember it being as totally tongue-in-cheek as it was. By the last 20 minutes I was laughing my head off at it. Spectacularly gory but so deeply dippy I found it impossible not to love. I found the music equally hilarious (presumably unintentionally, unless it was some sort of incredibly obscure metatextual joke) as the great majority of it was exactly the same as the "dramatic/exciting/spooky" music they used to use in Sons and Daughters. I found this at first incredibly distracting and then eventually hugely amusing in its own right.
This was a really silly movie but I had a great time with it. I love the bit where the killer pauses in pursuit of his final victim to pick up a couple of items on the floor in the supermarket in order to put them back on the shelf!

Saw Terminator Genysis at the cinema today. Generally speaking, great fun. No, it's not on the level of the first two but then, it was never going to be. It was a fun Arnie kick-ass sci-fi action movie like the good old days, and I had a fun time with it. The CGI Young Arnie Terminator was a hoot, and the 1984 stuff with that and the T-1000 was probably the highlight of the film. The later stuff was a bit of a retread of stuff we've seen before, but it was still fun. Courtney was alright, but he sure ain't no Michael Biehn. Emilia Clarke was pretty good as Sarah, though, and given that this is effectively a completely different version of Sarah than we've seen before, also made the recast a bit easier to swallow. All in all a great slice of cinematic fan-fiction. :D
