The Gauntlet. Clint Eastwood is a washed-up cop given what he's told is a "nothing" assignment to escort a witness from Las Vegas back to Phoenix - unaware that no one, including his own boss, expects either of them to make it back alive... Watchable if unremarkable and slightly silly late 70s action flick.

Regression. A young girl (Emma Watson, still gorgeous ) accuses her father of abuse, who bizarrely confesses despite professing to have no memory of such crimes. When regression therapy appears to unlock the presence of others in the crime, the detective on the case (Ethan Hawke) begins to fear he is uncovering a Satanic cult conspiracy with potentially far-reaching implications... This 2015 thriller is a bit of a damp squib. It's not really bad, and it's well made and acted, but as I suspected before it even entered production it is loosely based on real events in the US in the 90s - and even says so itself at the start - and once you know that most of the mystery is drained from the film because you can almost entirely predict where it's going. The real life events are genuinely extraordinary, and it might have been a better idea to do a more straight-ahead movie about them rather than attempting to do a mystery film where at least some of the audience will know the answer from scene one.

The Naked Face. A widowed psychiatrist (Roger Moore) finds himself in a nightmarish situation when a patient and then his secretary are both murdered, and attempts are made on his own life - and the policeman on the case seems more intent on making him into a suspect than trying to find out who's really behind it all. This is a moderately entertaining mid-80s thriller that is rather marred by its rather perfunctory ending. Let's just say the mystery is more interesting than the resolution. Uncle Rog is on good form, Eliot Gould is likable as ever, and Rod Steiger is hilariously over-the-top as the spectacularly obnoxious detective with a grudge and I was really enjoying this... but the last act really rather lets it down.

Saw 10 Cloverfield Lane today. Enjoyable suspense thriller. It's fairly loosely linked to the original, and anyone expecting a monster movie is in for a big disappointment lol! It's really more of a psycho thriller in unusual circumstances, with John Goodman in terrific, intimidating and unpredictable form. Pretty good.

Saw Ransom last night. No, not the mid 90s one with Mel Gibson, the mid 70s one with Sean Connery. A bunch of terrorists (led by Ian McShane) hijack a plane in Scandinavia, demanding the release of a bunch of other terrorists or they'll blow 100 passengers to bits. The authorities can't capitulate quick enough, but the Scandinavian Security Chief (Sean Connery, still Scottish;)) has no intention of letting any of them get away... Very entertaining and solid 70s thriller. I was particularly delighted to see that one of McShane's terrorists was Christopher Ellison, aka Frank Burnside from The Bill!

Pretty gruelling, but fascinating too. Haven't checked out the second disk yet, presumably it's a cache of interviews and unheard tracks.

Evidently, channelling the collective heartbreak is a very dangerous job. I now loathe the papparazzi even more than before [if that were possible].

I still remember seeing a bit of concert footage where the whole audience were singing along with the 'Back to Black' chorus;

"We only said goodbye with words, I died a hundred times..."

Another great talent that left us at too young an age.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. Two teenage scouts ditch their old friend on the night he's supposed to be getting his merit badge to attend a party with hot girls, blissfully unaware that while they've been out in the wilds their little town has become Ground Zero in a zombie apocalypse. This teen horror-comedy was actually much better than I was expecting, with some very funny moments and likeable characters. I enjoyed it.

Sitting Target. Oliver Reed is a violent criminal who breaks out of jail when his wife tells him that not only is she divorcing him, but she's also already pregnant with another man's child, and he's only got one thing on his mind - bloody revenge. Ian McShane and Edward Woodward co-star in this early 70s British thriller that started well but began to meander and ultimately made me rather lose interest. Disappointing.
