Ian agrees.
Zodiac's not really a macho kind of thriller, though, anyway. It's more a drama about the effect the case has on those who become obsessed with solving it, even many years after the fact. It's very good.

Notting Hill. Very likeable. Also, while I'm not a particular fan in general, Julia Roberts is gorgeous in this movie. Radiant.

Totally agree. Julia was superb. Even Hugh was bearable.
Especially liked Emma Chambers as Honey, (great in The Vicar of Dibley)
Hugh Bonnevile as Bernie, (great in Tipping The Velvet)
and Rhys Ifans as Spike. (he was great in The Shipping News too)

I've noticed The Sixth Sense on one of the movie channels from time to time but never got around to watching it.
Sounds like it might be worth the effort next time it rears its ugly head.

Yes, it's a pretty good little ghost story.

The Usual Suspects.
Violent crime drama made in the USA in 1995.
Not my usual type of film, but very well written, good character development, well acted and IMHO a great ending.
Seen it before a few times, just watched it again. Well worth the effort.

One of my favorites too...

Yeah, I've been thinking of giving it another spin of late.

Watched "Australia" on one of the movie channels.
Long film, around 150 mins, and I would have to say not Baz Luhrmann's best.
Similarities to his previous works like Moulin Rouge as far as cinematography goes, lots of CGI blended with the real landscape. Seemed to be filmed in the Kimberley region of Western Australia so I don't know why they even needed CGI, although it was hard to pinpoint where it was supposed to take place with references to the Kimberley, the Never Never, Arnhem Land and Darwin. That's an area half the size of Europe.
The storyline seemed like it was trying to tell too much and was a bit disjointed. Like a number of different writers just joining their sections together without much thought to continuity. Trying to combine the remoteness and isolation and its effect on Europeans, the relationship between the Aboriginal people and the Europeans, the trials of running a cattle station, the then government policy of removing half caste children into church missions, and the bombing of Darwin in the second world war.
As talented as they are the actors too stuggled for consistency, in particular Nicole Kidman who is usually first rate, seemed to fluctuate between farce and high drama. Lots of Australian stereotypes too. That's got to be down to Baz.
Having said all of those negative things I will admit that my opinions are coloured by having spent some time in the region. I will also say a lot of the people and events were quite believable, and that I did actually find most of the film to be enjoyable. Maybe a 5.5 out of 10.

Trick R Treat. Oh, really good! A wonderful little horror anthology, four stories taking place on Halloween night in the one small town (and criss-crossing ala Pulp Fiction). Really very good. Nice cast (Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, and nice to see "Dead Like Me"s Britt McKillip again too) and really very well done, nice mix of horror and tongue in cheek humour. Very 80s (and I mean that as a compliment) style, fun comic-book horror (as opposed to the 00s frequent obsession with torture porn).
Highly enjoyable.

Sounds like a treat.

You're not just trying to trick us are you?

Sorry. Now I'm really embarassed.
Sounds good.

Well worth the $18 (incl p&p) it cost to have it imported from Thailand. Couldn't rent it from Blockbuster, couldn't find it to buy at JB, but I'm glad anyway as its 30 odd bucks round here!

They're a pretty good place to browse, sellers from the Thailand - Malaysia - Singapore area. I've found a few DVD's in that part of the world I haven't been able to find elsewhere.
