Shutter Island

I don't like di Caprio very much, but this film was really good.

Tee hee, I hated it! Formulaic and predictable as day turning to night.

Spotted "The Man Who Cried" on one of the movie channels.
Christina Ricci had the main role but Cate Blanchett and Johnny Depp caused me to watch it 'cause I think they're both very talented and not afraid to take risks with the roles they choose.

Set after the end of WW1 up to the early part of WW2.
Ricci's character as a young Jewish child is forced to leave Russia in traumatic circumstances. Seperated from her family she is sent to England and raised in a foster home. At about age twenty she seeks work in Paris as a singer. Befriended by Blanchett's character, who is more glamorous and opportunistic, they find work with a theatre owner. Depp's charcter is a Gipsy who has also found work in the theatre.



So much promise, such a great cast, but......
I felt as though this was a small part of a much larger story to which I was being denied access. The script was very good, but again it seemed to be just giving me the highlights and not the full story.

Pretty fair overall, even though it was a bit unsatisfying.

I have the luck (?) of being paranoid enough to be sucked in the main character's hallucinatory delusion, and I rooted for him until it was ABSOLUTELY clear he was mad. So maybe I'm slow, but I really enjoyed the film

I picked up a copy of ''Summer Things'' cheap of the market. Have seen it before. It's a good French bourgoisie comedy of social calamities on vacation, very funny in parts, avec Charlotte Rampling and enough real philosophy of life angst among the joi de vivre, to keep it from being too lightweight.

Saw Jaws again last night (first time in about a decade). Simply excellent. 35 years on and still a sensational piece of cinema. A true classic.

Saw Clueless again last night. Brilliant. Still a favourite, and a genuinely inspired comedy. And Alicia Silverstone is SO gorgeous in this movie.

Saw Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban last night.

Found it deathly dull, to be honest...

Kill Bill Vol.1. Eh, it's alright, I suppose, but I doubt I'll watch it again. Not a patch on PF or Basterds.

Not a masterwork but interesting...

I might rent it.

Clerks. Still very funny.

Les Diables (2002) A rather incredible film about two autistic children. A truly startling performance by a young Adele Haenel. Scraps, not sure if you've seen this or not, but as you are so fond of Water Lilies I may assume you are also fond of Adele. I can strongly recommend this film to anyone that can get their hands on it. It is stunning.
