2006, French with subs, on SBS TV last night.



Ten year old Mélanie is a gifted pianist who auditions for entry to the music conservatory. Ariane, an established concert pianist and president of the selection panel signs an autograph for a fan during Mélanie's performance, thus distracting her. Mélanie fails the audition and gives up the piano.

Ten years later Mélanie gets the chance for revenge.

Vengance served very cold indeed.

Lovely comedy/drama film.
The circumstances of how Mélanie and Ariane meet again are a bit far fetched but don't lessen the film in the least.

Saw REC again last night. Simply BRILLIANT! Just as good second time. Exhilarating, tension-soaked and terrifying. One of the best horror films of the last decade.


The lead actress is really hot, too.

Ghostwatch. A "light entertainment" BBC halloween show features a live telecast from "the most haunted house in Britain", where a single mother and her two young daughters claim they are being terrorised by a sinister presence. The show starts off light and jovial enough, but as the evening wears on, the atmosphere begins to slowly darken...This BBC 1992 Halloween special featuring Michael Parkinson and other British light entertainment personalities Mike Smith, Craig Charles and Sarah Greene (who joins the family in the house with a cameraman and sound man) became notorious due to fooling millions of people that it was a real event and not a pre-recorded drama... and scaring the s**t out of them in the process! 19 years on, it is both a piece of tv history and an ingeniously realised and genuinely spooky ghost story. Rather special.

Straight. It caused THOUSANDS of complaints from people who were fooled and scared to death by it!

My fave comment came from someone on a forum one time, reminiscing, who said she'd got totally freaked out watching it and called her sister. Whose instant response was:

"It's a wind-up, you silly cow!"

I loves it! It's one of the earliest examples of the sort of BlairWitch/REC this-is-really-happening-on-camera genre. People are used to that nowadays, but it was extremely rare back in 1992, esp on tv!

It's actually got some really scary moments. Though anyone who hadn't twigged by the very end is, to be blunt, a frickin' idiot.

I took a chance on a Swedish film from a charity shop called ''involuntary'' by Ruben Ostlund. Very highly rated **** by The Daily Torygraph, Independent, The Times, Financial Times, Big Issue etc. It's won loads of international film awards.



A fucking bizarre comedy film. Actually it's like several (unrelated, unless I really am very fick) short films, spliced into one feature length movie.

''It's summer in Sweden ... A primary schoolteacher decides to teach her colleagues a lesson they'll never forget. Teenage girls are indulging in a webcam tease and seducing strangers { } University students are taking male bonding to a new level. And as day turns to night, a coach driver decides enough is enough and won't drive his passengers any further.''

Fuckingest wierdest film I've seen in ages. I found it mildly amusing in places, and a keen insight into what passes for humor in Sweden (i.e. they are easily amused). The laughter is mostly directed at social norms in Sweden, and takes the piss out of their cultural inhibitions. There is a low-budget feature length prequel by the director on the same disk. I didn't like the (English) title but I watched it and actually it was more funny than the main feature. Loved the bizarre kid in it. We must be related
