What do you think about religion?

Discuss anything on your mind, with focus on films and music though.

The question is: What do you think of when you hear the name 'god'?
There are not so many people that believe in the 'classical god' like he is described in the bible.
But couldn't it be that this natural force, who made exist all the things like water, oxygen, nature, animals, people and so on might be called 'god'?
It must not be that we can describe 'god' or imagine us something together with this name. But we might just realize what this force created out of nothing.

i think the question is: what's more logical to you: that the world was build out of nothing or that the world had existed for ever? You understand what i mean? For me it's quite impossible to belive that there have allways been something because somewhen MUST have been the beginning of all! That's my opinion!

Danu- when i hear someone say the word god, it probably means they're using his name in vain  . ok i'll be serious now. when i think of god.. i think of this big powerful voice that says 'i will smite you!'... and yes i am being serious.

Anny- i know that the world couldn't have come to exist from a lot of coincidences all put together. but i don't know how some invisible force could make the earth either. but i do believe that the earth was always there, and comehow, it came to be how it is today.

I guess i believe in God but i don't agree with some most common statements taken from the nearest to me religion which is Christianity. It is said in bible that for example homosexuality isn't bad itself but homosexual acting is bad is forbidden and is a sin...I don't get it...it's like taking away not only your free will but also happiness <_< if suffering is the idea of religion i'm out!

My philosophy for life can be summed up in one sentence. LIVE AND LET LIVE. Earth is round and everything is connected in shorter or longer ways.
I like to keep it simple :)

It's hard for me to put my trust in religions. Usually religion commands blind fate. Many ugly things have been, are and will be justified by religion. One of Ten Commandments is do not kill jet so many of those who call themselves christians can justify so many wars by their religion. It doesen't make sence... too many duplicity. It seems to me that sometimes people can use religion too easily to hide from responcibility of their actions.

I take different religions as kind of formulas wich arrange mind and lifesyle of people. Sometimes it seems that religions or cultures are like some kind of lifeforms. I mean they can spread, hybridize, there’s rivality among different religions and their branches, they can eveolve into shapes that fit better to the circumstances. Humans are like hosts. Relationship between those two sides is complex. It can work well for both of them but not always. My religion recommends me to try to be on peoples side as much as bossible ;)

Moderating time now

I think its prudent that a new topic named Religion or whatever comes into being..... Then sometime soon I will sort out and put into this topic all the comments from this post into the new topic..... Any complaints? No? O.k then, I knew you would all agree with me B)

the bible is a more then 1900 years old book (the old testament is much older). they had other priorities these times. homosexuals didn't produce any children. :D
i think it is outmoded to take these statements for real.

Good idea. I thought, split this topic completely. Not all books deal with God... ;)

i dont belive in god, and i either belive in satan (most people in my school think that i do but i really dont). i just think that the satanist arent as bad as everybody sais. they just have a different way of thinking. i had to write a text abaout satanist for ethic (i go to that class couse i dont wanna go to religion) and i wondered how nice a lot of things are in the church of satan. now my parents think that im a satanist and want me to "reeducate" making me read texts about how bad satanism is. *lol*
but the truth is im just a "non-beliver"

satanism is for kids. "when i was younger" :D i knew lots of satanists (or people who thought they were) and most of them were cool guys. but its not like satanism would be a religion. if you get older, it becomes just funny, like all these conspiracy-things
