What Are You Currently Watching (on tv/dvd)?

Discuss anything on your mind, with focus on films and music though.

Not quite currently, but soon to be watching.

I saw a preview for an Argentinian film called "El Niño Pez", released as "The Fish Child", so naturally I had to watch, and was intrigued. Directed/written by Lucía Puenzo who also did "XXY".

The plot revoles around Lala, a teenager from an exclusive neighborhood in Buenos Aires who is in love with the Guayi, the Paraguayan maid working at her place. Sounds like an ideal premise to me.

World Movies Channel in Aus, next Wed Feb 3rd at 8:00pm Central time. DVD recorder at the ready.

Also today from Malaysia, "Män Som Hatar Kvinnor" ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") or "Mænd Der Hader Kvinder" as my copy reads. Will get a chance to see it in the next couple of days.

Looking forward to them both. *:)*

Then your DVD of this film is probably a Danish copy

Not that it matters, it will have the original language track

It does thankfully. It's just the writing on the case that's in Danish.

Well, I thought I'd watch the first few minutes before I started some w*rk I had to do. That was a couple of hours or so ago. Watched it from end to end. What a great film.

If the book is better than the film it must truly be great.

Loved Lisbeth, what a strong character, she scared the crap out of me but she was hot as hell at the same time. Brilliant performance by Noomi Rapace. The Mikael character was an excellent foil for her as well. Great performance by Michael Nyqvist.

Män Som Hatar Kvinnor by whatever name they choose is bound to win many awards. Can't recommend it highly enough. Looking forward to the second film in the trilogy now. Image

Did she remind you of anyone? According to the book she was originally a redhead who died her hair jet black.

Sadly I will have to wait till I am in funds to buy it. Just put in my final tax return today. Oooooops

Actually the first book is very good, although you can feel Larsson finding his way and stumbling a bit, getting a bit bogged down in detail. Although he was an avid fan as a reader of fiction, his day job was factual journalism. By the second book he really writes more confidently and you can feel the lift off plotwise and in the characters. By the third novel he really let rip, no holds barred. By the fourth novel, he was 120 pages in when ... errrr he dropped dead.

Seems they have already chosen George Clooney and Kristen Stewart to play Mikael and Lisbeth in the Hollywood remake of Män Som Hatar Kvinnor, or whatever its new name will be.

Can't see Clooney being anything but the full on action hero who saves the day with Stewart as another decorative but useless accessory.

Virtually the opposite of the original.
I have a bad feeling about this.
It'll all end in tears, I just know it.

Thye've cast Chloe Moretz to play the part of Eli in the USA remake of LTROI. I'm not saying she isn't a pretty little thing, but she looks about as mysterious and threatening as a girl scout cookie.

Ally McBeal: The Inmates. The first half of the infamous Ally/The Practice crossover. Wonderful stuff. The very "gritty" characters from "The Practice" really do not belong in this show, and their reactions to the insane world of Cage & Fish are hysterical, resulting in quite the funniest episode of the first season.

The Practice: Axe Murderer. Second half of the Ally/Practice crossover (unfortunately I've only got a crappy VHS copy of this - it really should have been on the Ally season 1 dvd set, you cheap b******s) concludes the murder case set up in Ally, with a noticeably darker tone which it is interesting to see how easily Ally and Billy slip into (even if, as Ally notes after the episode's shocking climax, "This isn't my world... and I don't want it to be."

Old Home and Away:

You could tell Barlow had finally gone completely insane yesterday.

He was laughing at "Hey Dad!"
