fish wrote:...Argentinian film called "El Niño Pez", released as "The Fish Child". Directed/written by Lucía Puenzo who also did "XXY"...

Watched it this afternoon/evening.

Inés Efron as Lala and Mariela Vitale as La Guayi (Ailin) were both excellent in the lead roles.

So much potential in the storyline and acting but really confusing as much of it is told in flashbacks and many of the scenes do not readily link to the next, so it was hard work trying to follow what was happening when. Also a "more or less" happy ending, but lots of things were unresolved.

Worth watching another time but probably not a long term keeper.

It looks alright. :P

Buffy: The I In Team/Goodbye Iowa. Spike's "2 thumbs up" gesture to the idea of the Initiative wanting to kill Buffy is very funny.

House. I do believe I've lost interest. It's like a soap these days.

A BAD soap.

Watched Där Regnbågen Slutar out of the box set of Richard Hobert films which arrived this morning.

First, here is a brief plot synopsis from http://www.allmovie.com/work/dar-regnbagen-slutar-186573

Plot Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
The sixth in a projected series of seven, Richard Hobert directs this Swedish rock musical about the seven deadly sins. In a desperate attempt at forestalling financial oblivion, Mikael (Goran Stangertz) attempts to stage his semi-autobiographical rock opera in a circus tent in the coastal city of Malmo. His wife Catti (Camilla Lundin) is forced to close her store, and the two move into a trailer park. There they meet Tove (Pernilla August), a victim of a rather ugly divorce, and she and Catti soon become fast friends. Along the way, she also meets Mikael's former friend Rajje (Rolf Lassgard), who offers to front her some money in return for other services.

I also read a couple of reviews (the only ones I could find) in IMDB.com, which indicated that it was a fairly ordinary film, however Rebecka Liljeberg had a small part in it so I was determined to make the most of her presence, even if the film had nothing else going for it. :|

Well.
Maybe I'm the odd one out in the universe but I thought Där Regnbågen Slutar was brilliant.

The main character Mikael is an ageing, faded rock star, writing his life story in the form of a rock opera and in doing so is attempting to bring order back to his chaotic life. Scenes shift from reality to the play/opera and back again in what seems to be a mirror of his mental state. Very well done in giving that edge of instability to his reality. Very good story line, well scripted and acted and with some nicely done twists to the plot.

Of course Mikael has some secrets troubling him, not least of which is a daughter Sandra (Rebecka) of whom his wife Catti is unaware. Sandra appears to be a voluntary patient in a mental hospital for much of the film. She doesn't get a lot of screen time but she is very much a central character, and when she is on screen she's positively radiant. Hard to believe Rebecka could be more beautiful than in FÅ, but I think it's a very close call.

Image I didn't get this cover, just the "Hobert" box.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'll certainly watch it again.
If any of you can find a copy I urge you do so, even if you only want to see Rebecka again I'm sure you will finish up enjoying Där Regnbågen Slutar.Image

First 3 eps of PD James - Death of an Expert Witness. Very good so far. My only mild complaint (more sort of bemusement, really) is the incredibly undramatic way the episodes finish. Most 80s serialised thrillers of this ilk (like the Miss Marples or the Taggarts) generally end on strong cliffhangers. These just sort of...end. Granted, the story is compelling still, but it seems rather odd!

X Files: Two Fathers/One Son. The stunning season 6 2parter that blows the series' Conspiracy storyline wide open. Epic.
