The sequels blew, though.

I agree with this. I thought Brian DePalma was at the top of his game in MI.

Saw Wolf again last night. Still think this 1994 supernatural drama/thriller is very underrated. Jack Nicholson is a tired middle aged man on the verge of getting fired for whom getting bitten by a wolf initially seems a blessing in disguise - heightening his senses and giving him the fire to save his job and pursue the much younger Michelle Pfeiffer. Unfortunately, every silver lining has a cloud... Nice atmosphere and good performances, with a good turn from James Spader as Nicholson's slimy, backstabbing protege.

(Mental note: Never turn back on fishy) :P

Went to the cinema today to see Source Code. Pretty good sci-fi thriller. And Michelle Monaghan is GORGEOUS. :)P

Source Code sounds pretty good in a weird sci-fi kind of way.

I like the odd twist in the reliving of the 8 minutes and Gyllenhaal is very good. I don't recall seeing Monaghan in anything but she must have done well 'cause the film is rated very highly, and she's cute. :)P

I was most amused to see that Scott Bakula playes (voice only) Gyllenhaal's dad in the film, given Bakula's role in Quantum Leap, the premise of which bears a few similarities to Source Code (and apparently it was deliberate).

I didn't even know who Scott Bakula was until I looked him up on Gggl.
Methinks you must see too many movies. :P

Speaking of which. I'm plowing my way through Press Gang at the moment. Nowhere near finished. I thought the first couple of series started a bit slowly but really lifted their game as each one progressed.
Julia Sawalha seems to be acting the pants off everyone else.
(Can't wait for that episode. :)P   )

Buried. This got good reviews, but I'm afraid I found it dull, gimmicky and ultimately pointless.

Room In Rome

Image

A pick-up in a bar in Rome involving two people on the last day of their stay.

I had my doubts about the prospects of a good film built around the premise of a one night stand between two women, set in one room, all taking place on one night, but I thought this was a thoroughly enjoyable story of the development of a relationship from a purely sexual encounter to a deep emotional attachent. Both leads were excellent, as was the script and the storyline.

I suspect there was no Oscar nomination for wardrobe design as the two women were without clothes for almost the whole film. On the plus side both actresses were stunning. Elena Alaya as the Spanish Alba was very beautiful and Natasha Yarovenko as the Russian Natasha/Sasha/Dasha was simply breathtaking, and those legs. :)P

You wouldn't take your kids to see it but I thought it was very good.
