lol Sounds fun!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 1. Funnily enough, aside from the luvverly Miss W, I didn't really like it much 2nd time. It's very odd, but I suspect fan-fic has ruined the series for me (esp the last 2 or 3). There's actually so much better fan-written material out there you sit there wishing they''d got Dan and Emma to film them instead.

True Lies. What if James Bond was married with kids? Arnie is a supercool superspy whose bored wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) and diffident teenage daughter (a very young Eliza Dushku, 4 years before shooting to fame as rogue Slayer Faith in Buffy) think is a boring computer salesman, but a new terrorist threat is about to see Arnie's two worlds collide... One of Big Arnie's best, an outrageous tongue in cheek actioner with some spectacular action sequences, including the jawdropping climax with Dushku and the villain clambering around on top of an in-flight Harrier jet with Arnie in the pilot seat(!) and some wonderful dialogue, including one of my alltime favourite movie lines:
JLC (after finding out what he really does for a living) : Have you ever killed anyone?
Arnie (defensively, like a little kid): Yeah, but they were all bad!

A classic.

And I didn't even like the first all that much.

Meet the Fockers!!!!! Last night on SBS6

Moonrise Kingdom. Okay I suppose, but fairly unremarkable. Anderson's best film resolutely remains the untouchable The Royal Tenenbaums.

I've Loved You So Long - A novelistic and assured French family drama/character study, with a tour de force showing by Kristin Scott-Thomas as a numbed and deeply-traumatised woman trying to reintegrate with family and society after a long prison term. The opposite of soap, or scenery-chewing hollywood melodrama, and all the better for it. KST pretty much upstages everybody in the film, but the supporting roles, especially her younger sister, are all very well and deftly observed.

Is Anybody There - occasionally we remember that Michael Caine really can act, and this touching story of an unwilling friendship, on the cusp of senility and death, with the paranormally-inclined son of the couple who run the old folks' home he's sent to, is a true ensemble piece with a thoroughly believable cast and script, and as English as Marmite [but much less migraine-inducing].

Both of these fims, like FA and NdP, have deceptively simple stories but heartfelt, nuanced performances, and although I probably won't obsess over them like FA/NdP, they were well worth a look.

A fun little Christmas film with tons of seriously dark menace.

The only thing is, after reading your words on it, and doing a bit of on-line research, I decided to check out Ebay.
Lots of copies, reasonable prices. So I bought it.

Sat down to watch a bit of TV later in the evening, oh, I wonder what's on World Movies channel tonight.
Sure enough, 8:30, bloody Rare Exports.
I could have saved $20 FFS.

Enjoyable little romp in the snow. Not the greatest, but a good fun film.

So at what point does HP come to his senses and take up with her? Book 7, maybe?

Unfortunately, the so-called writer never came to her senses. Much to the chagrin (to put it mildly) of many, many fans.

Saw Ted last night. Some funny moments but a bit lame really. Not my cup tea really.

[I've never heard of John Hawkes before - which is apparently just the way he likes it - but damn, he's so good. Elle Fanning is beautiful, and affecting too, but I think it'll take a few more years 'til she's as straight-up believable as him. I'm very impressed.]
