Saw The Last Stand at the cinema today. Great fun! A good oldskool action thriller, with lots of big chuckles and bloody action. Formulaic and predictable, but in the best possible way. Great to see Arnie back doing what he does best, kicking bad guy arse.

Saw Side Effects at the cinema today. Watchable enough thriller about a depressed young woman who commits a heinous act apparently while under the influence of a psychiatric drug. Good performances from Jude Law and Rooney Mara though the initial premise is more interesting than what it turns into. A passable enough matinee movie, though I don't think I'll be adding it to my dvd collection.

Up here, Side Effects isn't set for a cinema release until late september.

As soon as we get it in the theaters, the rest of the world is waiting for a dvd release.

Saw V For Vendetta again last night. First class action thriller with a genuine sense of outrage and anarchic spirit. Fantastic performances. Almost enough to make you wanna go out and blow up Parliament!

Saw a truly dreadful 80s "horror" flick last night called Chopping Mall, about a group of youths who stay on to party in a shopping centre at night and get picked off one by one by the centre's out of control security robots. It was quite, quite abominable. To be fair, I sometimes got the impression that it was meant to be kinda dumn - there's one priceless line where characters have an argument and the girl goes, "I'm sorry. I guess I'm just not used to being in a mall in the middle of the night being chased by killer robots" - - and a few more like that and it could have been dumb but fun - but as it was it was just awful. Felt kinda bad for Kelli Moloney too. The only other thing I've ever seen her in is Night of the Comet, which is a genuine bona fida 80s cult classic. This... isn't.

Yeah I went to see it too. I really liked every bit that involved Arnie but all the car chases were a snoozefest. Practically every scene that did not involve Arnie or the small town had someone speeding at 200mph, as if I'm supposed to care.

Saw Cat people (1982) on one of the film channels last night.
Not a particularly good film to be honest, but I quite liked it.
Mostley for the 80's feel and music score with synths and Bowie, but it also helps when the main actress, played by
Nastassia Kinski, looks absolutely incredible in this film.

Jurassic Park, first time in over 12 years. Great fun. Hard to believe its 20 years old this year. The effects are still very impressive, especially the T-Rex and the Velociraptors. CGI hasn't really moved on all that much in two decades, except in the sense of being overused...

Jurassic Park is being re-released in theaters with full 3D this summer.
Think I'll give that a go, T-Rex coming out of the cinema screen sounds both frightening and entertaining.

Bought and watched two lesbian-themed romantic comedies. As a heterosexual male it's very difficult for me to find anything appealing about straight romantic movies: I find men repugnant so I don't understand why women would want to be with them and I sure as hell don't want to watch a pretty woman kissing some guy. So, to a heterosexual male lesbians make sense. (Of course if all women thought this way too mankind would cease to exist.)

Anyway:

Imagine Me & You: The lead actresses are very good and there's good chemistry between them. The movie has zero originality and is filled with clichés but I found myself enjoying it quite a bit. In fact, I watched it twice in three days. 4/5

But I'm a Cheerleader: This is more of a comedy but not a very good one in that respect. All the characters are stereotypes but I guess that makes sense considering the film's rather flamboyant art direction. The film is entertaining and the lead girl is very good. There's a cute "graduation" scene at the end that redeems some of the film's shortcomings. 3½/5
