Red 2. Not bad but not as good as the first one.

Cockneys VS Zombies. Some amusing moments - I did like the very slow chase scene with Richard Briers trying to flee the zombies on his Zimmer frame - but pretty weak for the most part.

Intouchables.
Great french feelgood film from 2011, about an unlikely friendship, based on a true story.
A rich aristocrat in Paris, who's paralyzed from neck down, needs a new career, and hires a rude young african immigrant from the slum area, dispite discouragement from friends and family.

Much recommended, it really pulls you in from the beginning till end, very funny, warm and likeable film, with some exeptional acting. The contrast between snobby aristocrat and the simple straightforward commoner, makes some very funny moments.

Unknown. Reasonable thriller with Liam Neeson as a bloke who gets in a car accident while in Berlin and awakes to find his identity stolen, people trying to kill him and his wife professing not to know him. Would probably have been better if someone hadn't told the entire plot beforehand!

The original When A Stranger Calls. A game of three thirds; the first 20 minutes are great (even if it is just a take on the same urban legend as used by the vastly superior Black Christmas), and the last 20, as the maniac circles in on the same babysitter he terrorised seven years earlier (now with kids of her own) is also pretty tense stuff. The intervening 50 minutes, however, are so agonisingly, long-windedly boring I nearly cut a hand off just to stay awake.

Saw Gravity at the cinema today. It was alright, I suppose; went on a bit in the second half, despite its fairly short length.

The Spy Who Loved Me. Great fun. Gotta love old Rog's terrible puns. "Just keeping the British end up, sir."

Saw About Time at the cinema today. Traditional Richard Curtis fare, albeit with a slightly eccentric deviation from the norm with the time travel twist, but so well executed and entertaining it's difficult not to go along for the ride. Very enjoyable.

Whip It, the roller derby thing with Ellen Page. Mildly amusing but also mildly annoying; some kind of false note in the tough-girl subtext.

Gravity with good old but still good looking Sandra Bullock. Apparently difficult to stay with two feet on the ground...

The Fog. Classic 80s spinechiller.

Saw Captain Phillips at the cinema today. Strong drama/thriller with Tom Hanks as a freighter Captain whose ship is hijacked by Somalian pirates. Based on a true story, this was tense, gripping stuff, very well done.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire at the cinema. Not bad, entertaining enough, if a bit overly similar to the first one.

Saw From the Hip last night, a late 80s legal comedy-drama with Judd Nelson as a brash young lawyer who cons his way to the top but then finds himself in over his head when lumbered with a seemingly unwinnable murder case with a client who is a preening, pompous intellectual snob who might also be a complete psychopath (a great turn from John Hurt). Elizabeth Perkins also does good work as Nelson's supportive girlfriend, the two managing to conjure up a nice, warm, affectionate chemistry that's very believable. Directed by the great Bob Clark and co-written by him and David E. Kelley (Picket Fences, Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Legal and amusingly has Ray Walston playing pretty much the exact same Judge role he later did for four years in Picket Fences!) That was a good film, I enjoyed it.
