I remember something, from the commentary I think, that at one take they forgot to open the car door (in which the snogging were to stop) and they just kept going for minutes.

Perhaps they didn't want it to end.

The way I heard it, they both had their eyes closed for the kiss and didn't realise that the car light had come on.
I guess we'll never know until someone sorts through all the outtakes.
