I haven't either.

Steve Coogan is pretty fun though, loved the travelling films with him and Rob Brydon.
Maybe I'll check it out.

Saw The Terminator again last night. I must have seen this film around 19 or 20 times in my life so far, and it never gets old. One of the best movies ever made, a classic in every sense. Looks fantastic on Blu-ray too. Essential. "The Terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with, it can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or fear, or remorse. And it absolutely will not stop - ever - until you are dead."

I had a Chucky double bill last night, with 1991's Child Play 3 followed by 1998's Bride of Chucky. Child's Play 3, which seems a bit of a rush release barely a year after 2, also feels like it too; it's the weakest of the series so far, with little Andy now teenage Andy (played by a different actor) and considerably less endearing than the original. The military academy setting is different, but not particularly interesting and while there are a handful of good moments, the law of diminishing returns has definitely set in here.

Fortunately the somewhat belated fourth film, Bride of Chucky, is a great return to form, albeit by turning the tone even more comedic than ever. Chucky's human girlfriend (from when he was human) Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) gets a hold of the killer doll's remains and uses black magic to again bring him back from the dead. He shows his gratitude by offing her and then bringing her back - as a doll. The two maniacal dolls then begin a cross-country road trip, hitching a ride with two runaway teenage sweethearts, who are increasingly confused and alarmed as to why they seem to keep leaving a trail of corpses in their wake... Bride of Chucky is an absolute riot from start to finish, full of spark and invention and an endless stream of great jokes and bonkers moments (the doll sex scene has to be seen to be believed! ). I found CP3 a bit on the dull side, but was cackling merrily throughout this one. Great fun.

Saw Whiplash and what can I say brilliant stuff with such tension and a brilliant performance from Jk Simmons and the last 20 minutes is just one big musical scene.

I said it many times.

I have the female lead Katie Jarvis as a friend on my facebook, she has two kids now and doesn't act that much anymore. Michael Fassbender is excellent as always . Great film with Jarvis brilliant as the teenage girl.

I think the guy who directed that is directing La La Land, which Emma Watson is in, in March. That's got musical elements as well. :)

Started watching Seed of Chucky last night, but turned it off after half an hour or so. The worst of the series by some considerable distance, it tries to capitalize on the success of the more comedic Bride of Chucky by turning up the zany factor by 1000 but only succeeds in becoming a complete joke. Bride worked because, while it was frequently hilarious, it still had horror and it maintained truth with the series' internal logic. Seed is just dumb. It's not scary, it's not funny, and you don't give a toss about anyone. Ugh.

So I ended up watching the most recent of the films, Curse of Chucky from 2013. This ended up nearly being a remake/reboot (and some fans feared it was even when it came out given it focuses on an entirely new family coming into contact with the killer doll) but turns out to be nothing of the sort. If there's a "reboot" quality about it, it's the so-called "soft reboot" as it maintains continuity but throws out the lunacy of the last two installments and goes back to basics in an attempt to return to the sinister and creepy tone of the originals and make Chucky scary again. For the most part, perhaps surprisingly, it succeeds. There are some niggles - the nature of the family's connection to Chucky is a bit convoluted, and the CGI blood is annoying - and while it's not up there with the best of the series, I enjoyed it nonetheless. Particularly delightful was the post-end credits coda, as Chucky gets himself mailed to the all-grown-up Andy Barclay, the hero of the first three films, and played by Alex Vincent, the original actor who played him as a little boy in the first two - only to find Andy ready and waiting for him. This is a great scene, that in its admitted brevity manages to give some closure to Andy's story (ignored since 3) and makes it clear that he and his family are doing well after Chucky ruined their lives all those years ago. The photos on the wall of not just his mum but his surrogate foster sister (from 2) and girlfriend (from 3) are also a nice touch.
All in all, not perfect - the original, 2 and Bride are probably my favourites - but decent and certainly a major return to form after the disastrous Seed.

Stage Fright. A group of down-on-their-luck theatre actors and their tyrant director get locked in their rundown theatre overnight. Unfortunately, they're not alone - because Irving Wallace, a notorious actor turned insane spree killer, has just escaped from the local loony bin - and guess who's in there with them? This deliciously lurid 1987 Italian shocker is a slasher cult classic for a bloody good reason (in every sense). Rather wonderfully OTT. :D

Saw Odd Thomas today. Starring Anton Yelchin and Willem Dafoe, this supernatural thriller, based on the novel by Dean Koontz, focuses on a seemingly ordinary young man in a sleepy little town who has the power to see dead people - and to sometimes be aware that bad things are going to happen. And what he's sensing now is telling him that someone is planning to make his sleepy little town into a slaughterhouse... This was a really enjoyable film that was much better than I was expecting and had a real oldskool vibe to it too. Very well done, I really liked that. :D
