"Alexandra Dahlström directs dream Video

When the Italian giant disco Giorgio Moroder make his first album in 30 years, he calls in Alexandra Dahlström to direct the video for the title track "Déjà vu".

How did you get this assignment?

- It was half a sick coincidence and half the universe that responds when you wish to stuff it. It started with an ordinary trip to Los Angeles to hang with my friend Julia Gahne that is creative producer and my partner in crime in all weathers. Suddenly one where opportunity awaited half life; to pitch a videoidé for an Italian disco legend with a magical mustache. And he liked it.

What was your vision for the video?

- You know this adage 'follow as they flee, flee as follows the "? When I googled it I saw that it is a paraphrase of Evgeny Onegin by Pushkin. Type the less we love the women, the more they want us. I love Pushkin and it turned out that it makes Giorgio too. So I figured a guy who is in constant search of new love gets lost among all his ex-girlfriends in a nightmarish world of the border, it could be pretty damn funny. Me and Julia played with a lot of references, most "8 and a half" by Fellini, our girlfriends and classic Scandal beauties like Monica Bellucci and Vanessa Paradis.

What is your relationship to Giorgio Moroder musically?

- I have listened to him a lot earlier. I usually play his old stuff "From Here to Eternity" out when I play records. I stood in front of Moroders gig at Way Out West and cheered in Italian, I have a great love for the elderly disco and electronic music Moroder's ancestor. Plus I love Donatella Rettore, Donna Summer and Grace Jones. So this was really a dream to do.

How was he to work with?

- Moroder is one of the sweetest and most educated uncles I've ever had the pleasure to work with. On the set he teased me because I used metaphors, referring to Pushkin constantly. "Sascha, it is Because You are Russian, They are always too philosophical!" But really, I think he enjoyed discussing Turgenev with a like-minded Europeans in La-la land.

What are you working on right now?

- I go to Berlin soon for an international collaboration that I developed for some months. More I can not say. Besides that, I cut a new music video by road movie material from Brazil to Klas Isaksson, a new Swedish technoakt to release their first single in the summer."
