Doctor Who - Last of the Time Lords. Okay, but doesn't stand up to repeated viewings that well. To be honest, I increasingly find myself preferring the old series to the modern one. Oh well...

I always find myself tuning in to the good Doctor whenever I notice he's on, which is about five times a week on Rupert vision. Mostly it's repeats of repeats but every now and then a new one crops up. Currently it seems to be what's his name Tennant as the Doctor with the beautiful Billie Piper as his assistant.
Come to think of it, it's not him I tune in to see, it's her. Roll on 2010 for more Doctor's Assistant. :D

Buffy - Gingerbread. Love it, a canny and dark twist on the "Hansel and Gretel" fairytale where Hansel and Gretel are a pair of evil little b******s who run around fermenting violent witchhunts in small towns throughout history. A very clever and quite scary episode.

Season 3 of Skins

Starts off a little weak, the school assembly scene was straight out of like American Pie 12 or something, but the main reason to watch is the secondary characters, Emily and Naomi (who Emily fancies) in particular.

The introduction of Emily is handled really well (unlike Kim in Sugar Rush), she's also an underdog but I felt myself caring about her character and that's something that never happened with Kim. Maybe it's just better acting and writing (though the writing is pretty up & down, the main love triangle can be pretty wretched).

I also liked Thomas but there was some weirdness when they brought him back because suddenly now he's going to the school rather than the janitor and he apparently has money - wtf. Katie is Emily's twin sister who's always been popular and had a boyfriend since she was 7 or something and a bit of a domineering cunt but doesn't get much screentime aside from being a bitch. Pandora is so weird you'd probably smack her in real life but is good in small doses on the show and her character gets less "bonkers!" later on. JJ is a semi-autistic nerdy smart kid who also improves as the season progresses.

Generally the less said about the main plot the better. Effy is very pretty and has amazing eyes but her character is underwritten for a lead. Part of that is maybe because of her past on earlier seasons of the show but some of it is probably because she's used as the prize between the two guys. Cook can be funny and reminds me of friends if they were manic and amped up on lots of drugs (because I would never do that!). Just like in real life that's fun for a bit and then gets irritating and makes you want them to fuck off, and he's always around. Freddy is mostly just boring, he loves Effy because, well, that's one of the problems: why do any of these characters care about each other?

Anyway there's lots of drugs, swearing, sex, some nudity and few parents to get in the way of shenanigans. Well worth catching if only for the secondary characters.

That's a terrible trailer, this promo is shit quality but gives you a better idea of the show. Most of it is from the first episode though and I think it got quite a bit better as it went on.

I don't think it's been on, has it? There was a repeat series on a while back, but I assume that was season 2.

Skins
SBS are flogging boxed sets of series 1 & 2 but don't have any mention of series 3. No mention of any of it on Progamming.

Fox 8 have series 1 episodes on at 2:30 am (that's AM  ) on Saturday and Sunday. Knowing Fox it'll be on another 4 or 5 times during the week. Might try to catch it or record it to see what it's like.

Doctor Who - The Next Doctor. The most recent Xmas special, which I quite liked on first viewing. On second, let's just say... I didn't.

Skins
Watched this mornings episode from series 1. (Recorded, not live at 2:30 mind)

A bit disappointed. Seemed to show the male point of view on most things, rushes of testosterone and all that. Thought the characters were all a bit one dimensional, e.g. the guy with the crush on his best mates girlfriend, like, that's all he had in his life. Every scene he was in he was just mooning about her. Similarly the girl with the clarinet who seemed to be the main character in this episode, whole life, clarinet, and a family who seemed obsessed with stopping her practicing.

mpox said "I think it got quite a bit better as it went on", so I'll watch a few more episodes to see if my opinion changes. Hopefully I'll prove my first opinion wrong.

Anyone else seen this show and care to give us their thoughts?

Keep in mind I'm only talking about season 3.

It's all on youtube, just make sure you view HQ and the quality is pretty good. Here's the first part of 3x01:

You can probably find it without Spanish subs if you look, haha.

Well, it's got me beaten. I watched a few u-tube episodes of Skins and I'm sure it'll wind up being the most popular show on tv, it has full on positive ratings, everyone seems to think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, and I'm the only one in the universe who thinks it's a pile of shite.

Fart jokes, crowds thinking it's wonderful to be flashed, adults who should have been removed from the gene pool at birth and teenage males who are sure the world revolves around them. The females are decorative but that's about their only purpose in the show.

Like I say, it's a sure fire hit and I'm sure I won't be missed if I don't watch it again.

I'd like to qualify my previous statements about Skins. Perhaps I shouldn't have commented at all as it's not my usual practice to be so negative.

I realise people's tastes differ and I respect the opinions of those who think differently than I. I would have liked to have found a series where I could empathise with the characters. That did not happen for me unfortunately and for some reason I expressed my disappointment in a negative fashion.

For those who like the show I hope you continue to enjoy it.
