My Only Friend

Billie, you're a miracle, and God knows I need one. Sing me something terrible that even dawn may come. You and me, we don't believe in happy endings. Hey, Lady Day, can you save my life this time? Can you cry so beautifully you make my troubles rhyme? Hey, Lady Day, can you save my life again? My only love has gone away. Will you be my only friend? Billie, you're a genius, enough to be a fool, a fool to gamble everything and never know the rules. Some of us can only live in songs of love and trouble. Some of us can only live in bubbles...

„Elin's babbling on about the chocolate milk and Agnes' nervous giggling gives a subtle but clear indication of the inequality of their relationship and tells us almost more than we want to know about where that relationship is going. Elin seems already a bit bored by the situation, or maybe she's returning to her normal emotional state which is flatout wasted and bored-as-only-a-teenager-can-be... (...) who seems to share little of Agnes' excitement, and is cool enough to glibly analyze the family politics of making chocolate. It's easy to see how this relationship is going to go and I felt bad for Agnes.“

What a sad way to interpret that scene. "flatout wasted and bored-as-only-a-teenager-can-be", I wouldn't even remotely see Elin's expression like that. The way she smiles at Agnes when she enters the room, holding the glasses of O'Boy, she seems to be radiating strength and proudness, as if she wanted to say: "now we're finally here together, please let me share the little things that matter to me with you. welcome to my world!". Agnes, biting her nails, surely has a reason to be a little nervous, after all she has been dreaming about this for so long. Elin, being the cooler one of the two, appears relaxed, after the exciting events that the two had two face a few moments before to finally be together. The way she analyzes "the family politics of making chocolate" feels like her stating "I know, I'm just talking about some meaningless little passion of mine, but as long as my beloved one ist listening to me, I know she'll understand, and it'll be allright.". Elin is sharing her world, her normality, with Agnes, and I can't see any traces of boredom here. Maybe "normality" was mistaken for "boredom"?
