My folks are 82[Ma] and 86 [Dad], and despite various illnesses still have their marbles, are at home, independent and pottering about; but I've dreaded That Call for several years now.

Not over yet, but after a long, exhausting and frustrating day at the hospital I've just arrived home.
There's a chance for a good outcome tomorrow but it may be another long day.

After the dole inquisition this afternoon, I'm heading over to the folks' in Liverpool - my Ma was in just hospital with 'fluid on her lungs', but is home again now - who knows how much longer it's going to be possible to visit them, so I'm going while I still can.

I am thoroughly narked by our bathroom scales. According to these bloody things, somehow over the last six months I've managed to put on nearly three quarters of a stone despite constant daily exercise and no change in diet. The last two days I've even gone without my usual Iced Coffee and somehow seemed to have put more weight on! I'm thinking "This is bull" and decide to test out these scales by putting them in another room - at which point I jumped another stone and a half between rooms!

Clearly they are not be trusted and now I don't know whether I need to lose any weight or not. How can you monitor your weight when the damn thing is clearly full of it? I think we need new scales.
