I suspect this may be related to much tougher laws about privacy in France than in the UK.

They have cast an eye over the strip of water that separates us, and taken their cue from the excesses of Murdochracy. Rummaging round in dustbins for personal snippets (like Marie) is old-style ''News of The World'' tactics. The whole game has been raised to a new level of intrusion. This implicates the connections between the news media, the government, the police, etc in concerted electronic surveillance and (basically) espionage. ALL OF IT to evil intent. To trash personal reputations, ruin individual lives, blackmail informants, cower politicians into retreat and silence. To oil the wheels of tacky commercial deals. In other words, it's about MONEY, POWER and GREED.

Sadly, the silence we experience as devotees, is a by-product of that nightmare world.

There's something about the idea of Pauline as a vampire which I find intriguing.
