Have a great time Dahls. :W

Must be that time of the year.
I'll be taking my two boys away for a week or so within the next few weeks too.
I'll let you have the details soon.

Damn you both, you organised, capable, holidaying bastards, and I hope you both have a wonderful time and tell me all about it afterwards.

I think.

Vacations are best when spontaneous, Dave, not organised.

For me anyway.

Possibly even best when affordable, Dahls matey. Next lifetime I intend to have plenty, to make up for their near-non-existence in this one. Anyway...Olivier Assayas, director of CoSM, rhapsodising - quite understandably - about Kristen, from an article translated by the excellent itsoktobeyou.org [and tweaked just a little for English idiom by your DMt.];

...this is probably due to the personality of Juliette Binoche, the respect she inspired in Kristen; she saw in her a model. Not a model as an actress, more a model of independence, of sovereignty, vis-a-vis the laws of cinema. Juliette had built her career by transgressing, exposing herself without reserve, without restraint, venturing into territories she knew nothing about, risking getting lost. Deep down Kristen knew, by instinct, that freedom is the only thing that counts and what she was looking for in Juliette was the key. I feared she would not let herself be shaken, it was the opposite, she came because she wanted to shake herself up, she wanted to put herself in danger. Because beyond her own virtuosity - the control of herself and all the nuances of her acting that she learned from living her life in movies, since childhood - she knew there was another dimension that existed, of self-abnegation, where spontaneity, the language of the unconscious, takes precedence.

Juliette Binoche probably could'nt be an actress of better influence, in that case Kristen is lucky to have her . :Y

You know, Dave my friend, the best vacations I ever had were those on a tight budget.
You really don't need strong financial muscles to travel.
I remember years ago; young, broke, alone and stranded in a foreign country, but, after a while, I managed to get home somehow.
It's a free feeling, but I guess it depends on who's awaiting the return.

Agreed indeed; K also said something like "she's become one of my favourite people in the world".

Change that 'best' to 'only' and you have my experience!

When you live on an island off the mainland, having the fare home is crucial - you can't hitch [or even walk] over the sea.

Dahls wrote:It's a free feeling, but I guess it depends on who's awaiting the return.

I haven't left this country since, in the early 80's, I joined a swelling tide of labour refugees seeking work in Europe; while I was kindly treated by most people [especially in your own beautiful country], work was not forthcoming, and the hardships of getting around with little or no money [and a guitar, a box of carpentry tools and all my gear lashed to a newspaper trolley] left a deep impression. Since then the only holidays I've had have been weekend camping trips in the UK.

I don't mind so much, really, the package-holiday-two-weeks-of-the-year thing has always looked like hell to me anyway. I did think I would travel more, as a younger person; but the combination of financial incompetence, and tending to choose poverty for its [highly relative, but still] freedom has mitigated against it.

Mind you, compared to the treadmill or hamster-wheel of gainful employment that so many people are forced onto, I guess you could say my whole life has been a holiday...just not, perhaps, in the prettiest or most interesting of places.

Wow, KS in Tokyo.

With a life such as hers, where does she go on holiday? And what would she do? Does she stalk 'fish' through a long black Nikon lens? Does she play guitar outback of the pub down the street from DMt.? I dunno... I can tell you she's not shown up here. Yup, I've yet to be on holiday with KS. (Am I allowed to admit that here? My membership won't be closed out on me, will it?)

Hey Mobes! Good to read you again!

gkmoberg1 wrote:Wow, KS in Tokyo.

Oh yeah...she's a bit global these days, y'know...Paris, Tokyo, Switzerland...apparently she likes Japan because she can move around freely without mass hysteria ['everyone is so polite'] and gangs of feral photogs.

Mobes wrote:With a life such as hers, where does she go on holiday?

To secret locations far from the prying, greedy eyes of papparazzi, one gathers.

Lord Mobius wrote: And what would she do? Does she stalk 'fish' through a long black Nikon lens?

I'm terribly sorry, but I have no idea what that means, except it's evidently something to do with photography :?
[Edit, with extra brain cell]; unless you were referring to Fish, in which case see below*...

El Mobo wrote: Does she play guitar...

Yes; check the new Jenny Lewis music video and her cameo in Into The Wild.

GK wrote:...outback of the pub down the street from DMt.?

No, alas...I [or even *Fish] should be so lucky [lucky, lucky, lucky].

Moby wrote:I dunno... I can tell you she's not shown up here.

Given the vastness of our floating anon population, this could be a large statement. I mean, for all we know she is a rabid Pauline Acquart or Alexandra Dahlstrom fan, and checks in regularly...maybe.

Good heavens, no, you're hardly exceptional in this. I, for example, have never hung out in Paris cafés with Pauline Acquart, or attended a Dahlstrom DJ gig, and yet here I am, pontificating away as though I knew anything at all...

Camp X-Ray trailer! - thanks, http://www.itsoktobeyou.org

Looking like another must-watch.

Wish I could go to Paris for the Aug 18th [was it?*No, it wasn't] premiere of CoSM, too...

*Edit: it's the 20th.

[I will hope that l'Acquart G et M is not working that night, and that she wants to/gets to see it, preferably free or something. :Y ]

I think you have that backwards! Let's look at that again, shall we? ... Pauline Acquart has yet to hang out with you in a Paris café.
That's the correct angle.
Yet,
it is a wrong that needs to be corrected.

Yes, of course, how silly of me...Kristen, Pauline, Bex &/or Lex should be grateful for the opportunity to bask in the warm golden light of my affection and unconditional positive regard [probably].
