Saw Poltergeist again last night. Classic 80s schlock.

Downloaded, burned and watched the 2005 Japanese film "Nana". Picture quality was pretty good, despite coming from You-Tube clips.

Nana is the adaptation of a Manga series of stories about a 20 year old girl named Nana who meets on a train to Tokyo another 20 y/o girl, also named Nana. Not much in common apart from the name, punk meets straight, become friends, wind up sharing a flat, etc, etc.

I thought it was a pretty good film. The girls are cute too.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (cinema, first time I've been in 5 months!). Good fun.

Saw Predator again last night. Classic 80s Arnie actioner.

Watched "When Night is Falling", a Canadian film made in 1995, written and directed by Patricia Rozema. This film received mixed reviews from the critics but generally positive ones from the public.

The story follows Camille (Pascale Bussières) a lecturer at a Christian college, who meets Petra (Rachael Crawford) a circus performer, in a laundromat, not long after the death of Camille's dog. The relationship they form out of that meeting forms the plot. The characters are well defined and developed and the dialogue is natural and believable. The acting is first rate by pretty much the entire cast.

I found this to be one of the best romantic dramas I have seen and (at the moment) it ranks about number two in my all time favourite films.

If you haven't seen it I urge you to run, not walk, and get a copy.

Saw Quick Change last night. Bill Murray, Geena Davis and Randy Quaid as an unlikely trio who pull off the perfect bank robbery - only to find it impossible to make it through New York to get to the airport! Very funny, very underrated comedy. Great fun.

Got a Danish DVD off the market for a quid ''Italian for Beginners", I think I was overcharged. Alright if you like soggy romantic comedies, that ooze cream and jam sponge out of your DVD player

I'm surprised you didn't spot the flaws in that purchase before you actually spent the quid.

But anyhow did get my question about "Wallander" answered as the Swedish made version is being broadcast right now on BBC4. Has English subtitles. Was very impressed with the one I watched on Monday evening. will have to check out if they are available as a set.

You mean the version of Wallander with Krister Henriksson?

This is the new series, there was a previous series where another actor did the role. His name was Rolf Lassgård.

Anyway this new series consists of over 20 episodes/movies, and many of the recent ones have not yet been released on dvd, only been announced. I think all of them do have english subs though. There seems to be a couple of box sets of the early ones.

The British made version of Wallander with Kenneth Branagh has only been made in 3 episodes as far as I know?

Yes. The British/ Swedish production with Kenneth Branagh was broadcast here last December and received commercial and critical success. I got the DVD for 20 quid which is expensive but its what happens when films get awards. Grrrr! They are now planning to shoot 3 more stories each year in the Wallander canon of 9 over the next two summers in Ystad. I liked the Swedish original I saw, would like to get on DVD. My irritation is that the British/ Swedish films don't have Swedish sub-titles cos I want to learn the language. It would help!

As a footnote. English language versions of Mankell are currently at 4th and 10th place in Waterstones (Booksellers) bestseller league. The 2 issued Steig Larsson novels are also in the top 20, plus Camilla Lackeberg. At this rate of Swedophile adulation, the BBC will get round to broadcasting FA/SML etc! Yayayayaya!!!
