Saw The Taking of Pelham 123 (original) last night. Pretty good.

Saw "The Unbearable Lightness Of Being". Nearly 3 hours long and made in 1988 with Daniel Day Lewis as Tomas and Juliette Binoche as Tereza.

Set in Prague in 1968, Tomas is a doctor who meets Tereza when he goes to a spa to perform an operation. She then moves to Prague to be with him. They soon marry. Tomas is pretty much the type no woman should ever marry, forever in and out of the beds of various friends and strangers.

It could have been a kind of light weight farce for these reasons alone, but it all takes place against the backdrop of the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 and there is a very serious undertone to all the events taking place.

The camera work is brilliant, including the seamless integration of newsreel footage. The acting is also first rate across the board. The only downside in my view is that compared to the book, (by Milan Kundera), the reasons why the characters act the way they do is not adequately explained. Overall I found the film to be very good, but could have been great with more insight into the characters' motives.

Saw Terminator 2 again last night. Very good, though I didn't enjoy it as much as usual. Maybe I wasn't entirely in the mood. Beginning to show its age a little in some places, and I think the first half is better than the second. Still think the T-1000 disappears out of the story for too long midway through.

My copy of Leon rolled up yesterday so I watched it last night.

Pretty good film if you're into bloodsports.
Good storyline, well told by Luc Besson.
The acting was great by Jean Reno, typical understated menace in his character.
Gary Oldman played the evil cop to perfection, similar to his role in Fifth Element. They guy does evil so well.
Natalie Portman however stole the show. For someone so young to play that character the way she did was just brilliant.

My only reservation was over the sexual advances of Mathilda. I just hate it for kids to be in that position.

Other than that it was a damn good film.

I know It's a bit redundant to have "I'm" and "stupid" in the same sentence, but ".........".
Sometimes I just buy dvd's on the spur of the moment. One such purchase arrived yesterday and I'd even forgotten I'd bought it, or why, a film called "Twee Vrouwen" (aka "Twice a Woman") made in 1979 and directed by George Sluizer. I bought the re-released 2008 version and watched it last night.

Based on a Dutch novel of the same name this film is almost entirely in English. It stars Bibi Andersson, Anthony Perkins, and the breathtakingly beautiful Sandra Dumas, (I think I just remembered why I bought it).

Your usual drama, older woman gets the girl, loses the girl to ex-husband...etc, etc. Lots of twists in the plot, you just know it won't end well.
And for any who thought men's clothes in the 70's couldn't have been that bad, this will remove all doubt.

MMmm nice one . I'll have to check that out Tonight I have been watching ''The Fox and The Child'' complicated but ''good feeling'' kids film and I will do a fulller review in due course. But it is a good feeling of wondrousness. one for the girls (where are they?) rather than the boys. Not the sort of film I think you guys will like, but hey the lead is a mini-me aged 10 and up to mischief, ginger hair and freckles on tap. A sorta French version of Pippi Longstocking. The foxes are pretty cute too! foxxy lady!

I haven't seen it before. I wrote a story about a year ago about a girl student and a shape-shifting fox. Someone reviewed it and said I'd ripped the idea off this film! No I didn't!!! I ripped the idea off old English folklore. prrrfffrttt! to my critics.

The Faculty. Crap but entertaining in a 'dumb as ****' kind of way. Robert Patrick is having fun as the alien posessed coach, and Laura Harris and Jordana Brewster are both mind-meltingly hot, so it's an amiable way to pass an evening.

Even if it is crap.

Saw From Dusk Till Dawn again last night, first time in donkeys years. Ha ha, brilliant. Love the way it switches almost exactly midway through from a tense, believable crime thriller into an utterly OTT, campy vampire horror. Completely bonkers but wonderful entertainment.
