Finished Veronica Mars season 3 today. The penultimate ones were a bit meh. The final was better, but also rather disappointing in leaving everything so up in the air given that it then didn't get renewed. When seasons 1 and 2 had definite endings, that just makes this doubly frustrating.

sweet Jeez.

Went into HMV today, ''Water Lilies" was reduced from 16 GBP (outside my price range) to 8 GBP. Bought it. Watched it.

Nothing but sheer praise.

I don't think this masterpiece though, superb as it is, would have seen the light of day without fA/SML.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.

Respect Lukas.

I liked it but it's a very different sort of story than FÅ. It seems like the original idea behind that other thread was people wanted more of FÅ so they were looking for a similar vibe in other films that might share a superficial similarity (i.e. lesbian protagonists) but that's just going to lead to disappointment because as much as they might catch some flavor of the original they're ultimately not FÅ and the characters aren't Elin and Agnes.

I'm going to try to find Container though now that I've seen an excerpt I think I'm going to need Kolya to find some piano to go with the dialogue. :)

I think probably Lilja 4-Ever is more closely related to FÅ than any other lesbian movie or whatever, despite it's sadness and despite what some people say about the story being moralistic and not deep enough to carry a motion picture

Thanks to Snaps, while browsing through the movie channels the other day I stumbled upon Atonement and recalled his recommendation, so I recorded it and watched it last night.
What a good film. The use of flashbacks and flashforwards gave incidents the perspective of a number of different characters and added a lot of real depth to the storyline. A gripping, sad, period piece as only the Poms seem able to do so well. The best thing Keira Knightly has done since Pride and Prejudice, (also directed by Joe Wright).
(I must also confess to a less than pure interest when Keira climbed out of the water. :)P )

Doctor Who - Attack of the Cybermen. One of my favourites, love it's dark cynicism and near nihilistic attitude. Unusual for DW, but very effective. Some great guest actors and some surprisingly nasty moments - the handcrushing scene still makes me wince!

''Boys Don't Cry''. Been awhile since I saw it. Still fresh as daisy and painful to the memory.

P.S. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< is a girl. :)

"Sexy Beast". Nice, cross-genre piece with very polished acting by some of Britain's best. Unusual contrast setting of world of gangsters 8) and the over-riding power of romantic love. Lots of tension which gives way to much nervous laughter.

SCULLY: Mulder, I know what you did wasn't by the book.
MULDER: Tells you a lot about the book, doesn't it?

Started The X Files season 2 last night. Little Green Men is a tad dull, but The Host is enjoyably icky.

Columbo - Fade In To Murder. Columbo vs Captain Kirk. There's something you don't see every day.
