You have to understand that Rupert Murdoch only acknowledges the existence of things he actually owns. I guess once he buys the rest of "everything" the ballot will include all the other episodes.

Looking forward to that day. :( *:|*

Doctor Who - The Pandorica Opens (Part 1). After 4 weeks of rubbish and me almost losing interest entirely, we have something approaching a good episode again. Thank heavens for Steven Moffat (course, it would be nice if he wasn't just about the only competent writer the current series has, but that's by the by).

Not perfect by any means, but an assured part 1 with plenty of shock moments (love the skull in the Cyber head) and that thing so often absent these days - a little thing called ATMOSPHERE. The cliffhanger was decent, if slightly marred by the fact the new teletubby Daleks still look crap, and the fake Roman set up all being taken from Amy's memory was enjoyably creepy.

Pretty good on the whole - just hope the finale doesn't disappoint.

PD James - The Black Tower. Another engrossing six part mystery. Quality stuff. Also quite nice, after two (still excellent) stories with relatively low-key conclusions and almost-sympathetic killers, to have one where the murderer is a complete and total unmitigated b*****d and won't go down without a fight even when exposed!
Classic British drama.

Buffy - Listening To Fear. A wonderfully dark episode which crisscrosses the subplots of Buffy's mum's brain tumour and the rise of mental patients in Sunnydale (thanks to Glory sucking the sanity out of people) with a creepy demon that preys on the mentally ill. The critter itself is one of the creepiest in Buffy history, a gross cross between a giant cockroach/spider, with a humanoid face. Urr. Then there's that great twist at the end, where Ben, this nice young intyern who's been popping up every now and then at the hospital, suddenly turns out to be - somehow - linked to Glory an to have summoned the demon to "clean up Glory's mess.. like I've been doing my whole life". We don't yet realise just HOW close Ben and Glory really are... (I love this whole arc, it's so deliciously well plotted).

Oh, I do miss this show!

Saw Doctor Who - The Lodger and then the finale last night. The Lodger wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, actually. Fluffy crap, but watchable enough with some funny moments.

As for the finale... well. Didn't like it, sorry. Not awful or anything, but very disappointing on the whole. The tonal shift between part 1 (which actually bothered to be atmospheric and even quite chilling toward the end) and part 2, which seemed to mostly treat it all as a bit of a joke jarred badly, and it was all a bit nonsensical really. Also not particularly happy that both the River Song/Silence will Fall arcs are dragging on for another season. RTD seemed to want to turn the show into (a poor man's) Buffy. Moffat seems to want to turn it into (a poor man's) Lost. What's more annoying is this sort of thing essentially makes a nonsense of the reasons we were given for so few multi-part stories (that it would alienate the casual viewer. I rather think incredibly complicated arcs that span several seasons are somewhat more likely to alienate Mr and Mrs Casual than an increase of 2 parters). Watching the finale, the cynic in me couldn't help but observe that it would hardly matter if the entire universe (bar Earth) had remained dead, since we never see any of it anymore anyway.

All in all, a surprisingly disappointing end to a surprisingly disappointing season. I like the main characters/actors, but the stories themselves are still pretty poor. Best of the season by far was the Angels 2parter, but even that is arguably fatally compromised by having the "Arc" dominate so much of part 2, essentially making it redundant as a standalone. New Who still hasn't delivered a truly decent season since 2007, and that's becoming increasingly ridiculous.

As one of the "casual" viewers I can only agree. :(
Used to be so good too. :x

We can see why, Kyle.

I have to say, I've rather taken to "Reaper" on 7TWO. An enjoyably quirky supernatural comedy drama. Needless to say, it's already been cancelled. :T
