Doctor Who - The Romans. Good fun. Never been a fave, but there's a lot to like and the regulars are on all top form, Hartnell seemingly having a whale of a time (esp when beating up the assassin. "I'm so accustomed to constantly outwitting my opponents that I'd almost forgotten the delights of the gentle art of fisticuffs!"

24 season 5. Only problem with 24 (esp on DVD) is once you start watching it, you don't wanna watch anything else till you've finished the entire season!

Finished my 24 season 5 marathon. Simply awesome from start to finish - the best season they ever did, no question, and as subsequent seasons pretty much proved, just about impossible to top. Season 5 is the stuff TV legends are made of.

Doctor Who - The Web Planet. Deliriously weird Hartnell story. As with Dalek Invasion, you can't quite believe they had the nerve to do something this epic and bizarre on a 1960s teatime budget. They don't get away with it anywhere near as well here, though, and it's dated pretty badly. That said, this mental tale of war between mothmen and giant ants being controlled by a malevolent spider at the centre of a deadly web on the weirdest alien planet ever seen in the series has some creepy moments and is so bonkers and surreal and astonishingly brave, you have to admire their ambition.

Buffy: The Body. Extraordinary episode focussing on the first few minutes and hour after the sudden death of Buffy's mother. Gutwrenching. The writing, directing, performances and complete lack of any incidental music whatsoever make it extraordinarily intense and almost voyeuristic. Astonishing.

Buffy - Intervention. Very funny episode (Gellar is hilarious as sex-robot Buffy  ) which takes a dramatic turn toward the end. Spike's first real moment of punch-the-air genuine heroism, too, refusing to betray Dawn even in the face of Glory's torture. "The slayer is going to kick your skanky, lopsided ass". *:)*

Saw the remaining episodes of Dr Who -The Crusades last night. Pretty good. Because last time I clicked on the individual eps, and this time I clicked "Play All", I suddenly found myself presented with "linking material" for the missing eps presented by William Russell, in character as Ian!

I didn't even know that was there before!

Speaking of the good Doctor, caught the last bit of an episode on the plane home yesterday.

Last of the Daleks, in a museum, Rose saved it till it killed itself.... No idea what it was called but it was one I'd seen before. Kind of fun while sitting in a plane.

That would be "Dalek", from the first season of "New Who". Christopher Eccleston. Ah, those were the days.
Pretty good, though the ending is unintentionally amusing.

Heathen.

Sliders - Post Traumatic Slide Syndrome. The sliders think they've finally made it home in this excellent episode, one of the series' best. Aside from the open ending - creator Tracy Torme has apparently confirmed that it was his intent that the WRONG Arturo slid with the others - it also raises the question of whether the sliders could ever be 100% sure they've made it home even if they really did. Which is quite disturbing when you think about it.
